What drew you to yoga?
After being an athlete and into strength training most of my life, I was convinced that no form of physical activity was too hard for me. Then I was drawn to yoga, particularly hot yoga, and I was humbled. At first it felt like I had something to prove, but turned into a deep love for the benefits I felt mentally and emotionally.
Why do you practice?
Yoga has allowed me to become much more mindful. I am an anxious girl and yoga really helps me to chill out, and gives me a minute to collect myself and connect with my body.
(Life+) How does yoga change you off the mat?
The concept of Svadhyaya, or self-study, has made its way into my everyday life. It has encouraged me to observe the way my mind and body react to challenges outside of the mat with a childlike curiosity as opposed to shame or embarrassment.
What is your style?
I want to cultivate an environment of playfulness and discovery in my class. I encourage everyone to challenge themselves, while also listening to their bodies and giving themselves grace. My practice is all about having the safety to make mistakes and do hard things, and I aim to grow and develop with my students as we move through our time together, celebrating all of the falls and tumbles.
Where are you when you’re not teaching?
I’m a student currently seeking to become a clinical trauma therapist and eventually open a healing and wellness practice! I also enjoy reading, cooking, sauvignon blanc, and happy hour. Most importantly, nights in with my boyfriend and cat.
What illuminates you?
Connecting with others and working to support social good Illuminates me! I center a lot of my work around fighting oppression and uplifting marginalized groups, and I believe that community and conversation are vital in reaching equity.
