What drew you to yoga?
I have been dedicated and committed to fitness and wellness for years, running marathons, centennial bike challenges, personal training as well as learning from health and life coaches. I remembering reading an article about yoga and meditation accompanied with a tranquil photo of a women sitting still, eyes closed with this very serene soft smile on her face. I said to myself, just like Meg Ryan did in the movie “When Harry Met Sally”…I want what she’s having! I cut the photo out and place it up on my inspiration board in my office. The next day, one of our dear friends was putting together a couples retreat down to Florida. She asked a few of us girls what kind of activates we would like to try. I said, “how about a yoga class”? Will never forget that first yoga experience especially with such a supportive group of friends. Crazy that I can still look at that one photo that hangs now in the center symbolizing a place of honor above my desk and feel this sense of destiny knowing I am exactly where I should be.
Why do you practice?
Not just the asana but by practicing all 8 Limbs of yoga you start to understand the importance of self-care, kindness, non-judgement of myself and others along with consciousness living in a state of awareness in true bliss. Often times as women we take care of everyone in our families, work and community then what little is left give to ourselves. I want to help change this thinking because my daily practice has given me the energy, mindfulness and awareness to be that loving, giving, caring person because my glass is full and only then can you truly unconditionally pour and share that abundance without ever running out.
(Life+) How does yoga change you off the mat?
With my daily practice every morning, I am rooted in my true self and reminded to live today not rehashing yesterday or stressing about tomorrow. I feel grounded and have a strong sense of living every moment of this day to it’s fullest knowing the power of now is only when action can be taken to create change. My nightly practice is full of gratitude from the day’s miracles and sending healing thoughts to those in need.
