BRENAN
ALY
What drew you to yoga?
I wanted to get upside down! I came to yoga by way of aerial yoga. I loved the feeling of spinning, learning new skills, and exploring what my body could do. Over time, however, I found myself returning for different reasons and falling in love with the mat, too.
Why do you practice?
I practice yoga because it helps me pay attention.
In a world that is constantly demanding our attention, asking us to do more (to spend more! to be more!), yoga offers a space to slow down and just notice what its like to be right here. There is no big achievement to chase, no yoga-olympics to win. It reminds us that things can be worth doing just because we enjoy them!
How does yoga change you off the mat?
Over a decade of practice, yoga has taught me to approach myself with more curiosity and less judgment. It has helped me build resilience when faced with challenge and develop a deeper appreciation for what my body is capable of on any given day.
What is your style?
Playful and explorative. Our practice is such a gift and I hope to create an environment where participants feel safe enough to try new pathways, question the status quo, be creative, and celebrate all the cool things their body can do!
Where are you when you’re not teaching?
In the garden!
What illuminates you?
What illuminates me is the opportunity to help people reconnect, with their bodies, with each other, and with the world around them. I am drawn to spaces that push me to continue learning and encourage me to be part of something larger than myself.
